The AA have independently inspected and rated St Mellion against very exacting criteria. In 2011 the hotel's merit score (a measure of the quality of service at the specific star rating) increased to 80% putting it in the top three AA rated hotels in Cornwall and the highest AA rated hotel in the Plymouth Area.

The most respected golf course award in the world of golf, the Jack Nicklaus Signature Course at St Mellion has been a permenant feature on the top 100 listings for many years. Judged by independent golfers from unannounced course visits throughout the year, the judging criteria includes the course layout, the pedigree and the course conditioning.
